Thanks to our first article, you are well on your way to becoming a true hashtag expert.
Now the question is, how can you leverage these hashtags in your digital communication to enhance your brand awareness?
How to Use the Hashtag?
The hashtag acts as a hyperlink that allows you to discover all the posts associated with that hashtag.
There are two ways to discover content through hashtags:
Clicking on the hashtag
Searching for the keyword/hashtag in the search bar
You simply need to add a keyword preceded by the # symbol in a post, for example, #digitalmarketing. Your hashtag can be placed anywhere in your #post. Since it appears in bold and becomes clickable, it is more visible. You can also group the hashtags at the end of a post.
You can also add them to the bios, descriptions of your profiles, and company pages.
For example: "EyeOnline Agency #digitalmarketingagency for #smes and #smallbusinesses!"
Important to know!
A hashtag should not include spaces, periods, or hyphens. However, accents and emojis are possible. Indeed, each space, period, or hyphen breaks the keyword into two, and only the first part will be considered.
OK: #marketingdigital NOT OK: #marketing-digital #marketing_digital #marketing.digital #marketing digital
Which Hashtags Should You Use?
There are thousands of hashtags today. The key is to choose those that are most relevant for your brand's visibility while staying consistent with the content of your post. To clarify, here is a (non-exhaustive) list of hashtag categories:
Brand Hashtags:
It is important to use hashtags specific to your brand name. This way, your community can more easily find your content. For EyeOnline agency, for example, we use #eyeonlineagency #eoa.
These are generally grouped at the end to "sign" a post and reinforce brand awareness.
Descriptive Hashtags:
Common words that reflect the content of the post and allow for broader reach, such as #portrait, #infographic, #tips, #advice.
Niche/Industry Hashtags:
These hashtags help refine your visibility and usually refer to your core activity. Example: #marketingagency #digitalagency #digitalmarketingagency
Sector/Target Hashtags:
Specific to your industry and target audience #smes #smallbusinesses #freelancer
Trending Hashtags:
Location Hashtags:
